The hip is one of the largest and most important joints in your body — built to support your weight and allow smooth, powerful movement.

When hip pain strikes, even simple tasks like walking, climbing stairs, or getting out of a chair can become difficult.

We help reduce pain, restore mobility, and get you moving comfortably again.

HIP PAIN

Hip pain can significantly affect your ability to walk, climb stairs, exercise, or even sleep comfortably. Whether it’s caused by arthritis, bursitis, muscle imbalances, labral tears, or a previous injury, our experienced practitioners at Stryde Health Centre are here to help.

We create personalized treatment plans using joint mobilization, targeted strengthening exercises, gait retraining, and manual therapy to reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore function. Our goal is simple: help you move better, feel stronger, and enjoy lasting relief.

Common Causes of Hip Pain

  • Osteoarthritis — Wear and tear of the hip joint cartilage, often related to aging, leg length differences, or years of high-impact activities
  • Hip Impingement (FAI) — Abnormal contact between the ball of the femur and the hip socket
  • Bursitis — Inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs that cushion the hip (most commonly trochanteric bursitis)
  • Labral Tears — Damage to the cartilage ring that lines and stabilizes the hip socket
  • Muscle Strains — Injuries to the hip flexors, glutes, or piriformis muscle
  • Tendonitis — Inflammation of the tendons surrounding the hip joint
  • Hip Fractures — Breaks in the hip bone, often resulting from falls or trauma (including ICBC-related accidents)
  • Referred Pain — Pain coming from the lower back or sacroiliac joint (e.g., sciatica, disc bulges, spinal stenosis, or facet joint issues)
  • Avascular Necrosis — Reduced blood supply to the head of the femur
  • Inflammatory Arthritis — Such as rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis
  • IT Band Syndrome — Tightness or inflammation of the iliotibial band
  • Piriformis Syndrome — Compression of the sciatic nerve by the tight piriformis muscle

Common Symptoms of Hip Pain

Hip pain can present in many ways and often affects daily activities, sleep, and mobility. Common symptoms include:

  • Pain in the hip, groin, buttock, outer thigh, or radiating down to the knee
  • Stiffness, especially in the morning or after sitting for long periods
  • Limping or altered walking pattern to avoid discomfort
  • Grinding, clicking, or catching sensations in the hip joint
  • Weakness when standing from a seated position, squatting, or lifting
  • Pain with weight-bearing activities such as standing, walking, or climbing stairs
  • Night pain, particularly when lying on the affected side
  • Reduced activity tolerance — difficulty with prolonged walking or standing
  • Difficulty sitting for extended periods

  • Hip locking or catching during movement

If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, early assessment by our physiotherapists or chiropractors can help identify the cause and start effective treatment.
